    Visiting lecturer: So as you can see, the answers to questions you might have to face in pastoral ministry are by no means easy. I mean, what do you do with the man who leaves his wife for another woman in the church and says "it's ok, God loves us and he will forgive us"? How would you deal with that?

    Visiting lecturer turns to theology lecturer 

    How would you deal with that kind of incident?

    Theology Lecturer: Well when I was a Pastor and couples used to come up to me and tell me they were leaving their partners and that it was ok and that God would just forgive them I used to use what I called the "John McEnroe Effect".

    Visiting Lecturer: What on earth was that?

    Theology Lecturer: I'd look at them quite angrily and say "You cannot be serious." They didn't used to like that.
